Business planning meets powerfully simple three-way cash flow forecasting.
The project aimed to enhance Fathom's financial analysis and reporting offering by leveraging historical data to generate accurate future projections. The goal was to empower customers with transparent and reliable forecasts to make well-informed financial decisions.
During early discovery, the team learned that accountants working in advisory were largely dissatisfied with existing forecasting tools. Common pain points included steep learning curves, time-consuming setup (often taking days or weeks), and output that quickly lost relevance. As demand for forecasting grew, its absence was becoming a competitive risk for Fathom.
I joined the team after initial research, discovery, and information architecture had taken place, forming a close-knit design team of three. Our focus was on fleshing out features, running user research, refining designs based on feedback, and ensuring high-quality delivery of a best-in-class forecasting experience.
Feature design: Worked on core areas such as quick metrics, microforecast wizards, timing profiles, and settings pages.
Education & delight: Contributed to in-product education by producing videos and designing engaging illustrated and animated empty states.
Design quality: Standardised UI patterns like headers and panels, and led extensive design QA across the full feature set.
User research: Participated in research sessions and applied insights to guide continuous product improvements.
Marketing support: Created mid-fidelity product visuals for use in promotional materials and blog content.
